Gunmen kill 4 Cabuyao residents, security guard in a hail of bullets

Five men were killed on February 21 by still unidentified gunmen in a village in Cabuyao, GMA 7 news program "24 Oras" reported on Friday.

Police identified the fatalities as Alberto Flores, Roustico Pepe, Jasper Salvani, Monico Laviña and security guard Helmer Laig.

Footage from CCTV cameras installed in Barangay Marinig showed four of the victims plus a companion walk out of the Celestine Homes subdivision. Unknown to them, they were being followed by a spotter for the killers.

The four victims, the other companion no longer with them, then returned to the subdivision past midnight. This was when some five gunmen greeted the victims with a hail of bullets.

The subdivision's security guard was not spared, and was shot and killed.

Village watchmen immediately responded to the scene after hearing the gunshots. The suspects, however, threatened the watchmen with thier guns before fleeing the scene on two motorcycles.

"Dalawang beses pinutukan yung gwardya, tapos kami na ang tinutukan, kaya napatakbo na kami," said barangay tanod Nester Perez.

"Twenty-eight slugs ang na-recover sa crime scene. Binaril sila ng malapitan, sinigurado talaga," said Cabuyao police investigation chief Senior Inspector Edgar Sumadsad.

Police are still looking into the motive of the crime, which they said could be the handiwork of professional contract killers. — Virgil Lopez/DVM, GMA News
