Suspects in Laguna robbery-homicide case used bogus documents
A man claimed on Tuesday that he is a victim of identity theft as he disowns the identification card of a suspect in last week's robbery and homicide incident in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
In a report of Saleema Refran for GMA News TV's "State of the Nation with Jessica Soho," Christopher Oliveros said he was a victim of identity theft after his face appeared on the ID of a certain David Dela Cruz, the alleged Internet repairman who bludgeoned to death a 29-year-old mother and her year-old son using a hammer.
Oliveros, in an affidavit, is an electronics and communications engineer for Globe Telecom, the company the suspect claimed he is affiliated with.
"I got the shock of my life when I saw this particular news. Report showed an identification card of this David Dela Cruz, bearing my photograph," the affidavit read.
"My picture shown on the ID card was taken from my 'profile picture' in my Facebook account. It appears that I had been a victim of identity theft," Oliveros said.
Globe Telecom confirmed that Oliveros is working for the company as a senior specialist and that his photo/identity was stolen from social media.
"We would like to clarify as well that the job order form retrieved at the victims' residence is fabricated," the telecom company said in a statement.
"The job order form issued by Globe is a system generated print-out indicating the details of deployment including 1) customer name, 2) installation address, 3) account number, 4) job order number, 5) service type, 6) serial number of modem to be installed or repaired and other technical information required. The fabricated form does not bear any semblance with the real, official Globe form," the company said, adding that they will collaborate with the police for the swift resolution of the case.
Oliveros recalled that when the crime took place on March 2, he was with a technician of Huawei Technology, a vendor of Globe equipment, at the San Andres cell site.
"Nagpadala naman siya dito ng sworn affidavit at in-explain yung kanyang...but anyway he's still available kung kelan ipatawag natin to shed light on the investigation," Sta. Rosa police chief Reynaldo Maclang said.
Maclang said the husband of the victim is considered a person of interest.
"Based on atin pong verification sa atin po, sa Globe ay ang stand po nila is talagang may alam ng contact, yung job order number ay yung between the call center agent and the subscriber," he added.
Public Attorney's Office chief Persida Acosta, meanwhile, protested the inclusion of the victim's husband as person of interest.
"Anong person of interest? Interesado siya na mahuli kung sino ang mga salarin. Maliwanag pa sa sikat ng araw, siya ang complainant dahil siya ang namatayan. Asawa niya yung patay, anak niya yung patay," said Acosta, who is representing the victims in the case.
However, Calabarzon Deputy Regional Director Chief Supt. Ronald Santos clarified that the husband is not yet considered a person of interest.
"Hindi pa po. Hindo po namin naiaalis na pati yung nanay, tatay, kapatid, kaibigan mga kamag-anak, kapitbahay yun po ay subject for questioning and interview," Santos said.
The husband assured that he is willing to cooperate with the probe.
Meanwhile, the victims will be buried on Thursday afternoon. — Virgil Lopez, BAP, GMA News
