Air Force sergeant dies in Batangas ambush

Two motorcycle-riding men shot and killed an Air Force sergeant during a Monday morning ambush in Mataas Na Kahoy town in Batangas, the provincial police said. The police identified the victim as Sergeant Samuel Acar, 31, who was last assigned at the Fernando Airbase in the nearby Lipa City. Initial reports indicated that Acar was driving his owner-type jeepney (plate DST-856) when the assailants pounced on him in Barangay (village) Manggahan. Police Officer (PO) 2 Ernesto Chavez of the Batangas police said in a phone interview that the fatality suffered a still undetermined number of gunshot wounds to the body and died on the spot. Recovered from the scene were six empty shells and two slugs from a .45-cal. pistol. Chavez said the motive for the shooting "has yet to be ascertained." Mataas na Kahoy town is a fifth-class municipality beside Taal Lake and is adjacent to Lipa. - GMANews.TV
