Anti-drug police officer shot dead in Tacurong City
GENERAL SANTOS CITY — A police officer who had led a special anti-Illegal drugs unit in Cotabato City was shot to death by motorcycle-riding men in Tacurong City.
An initial police investigation showed Senior Inspector Orlando Ramos Guira, 46, was shot at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday while on his way home on his motorbike.
Police records showed that Guira was assigned as deputy chief on Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force in Cotabato City.
Tacurong City Chief of Police Superintendent Rannie Hachuela said the victim came from nearby Isulan town where he was supposed to pick up his wife from work.
“But instead of taking the backseat on the motorbike as the couple's usual practice, his wife Le Jean, a physician, took a tricycle because she was not feeling well at the time,” said Hachuela .
Jean heard bursts of gunfire from the tricycle she was riding, tailing his husband's motorbike, Hachuela added.
Authorities suspect the victim's movements were closely followed by the attackers riding tandem on a motorcycle and executed their plan when they found a chance in Barangay EJC Montilla.
Guira suffered several gunshot wounds from a cal-.45 hand gun. The suspects immediately fled back to Isulan town's direction, according to Hachuela.
Police are hunting down the assailants and are investigating whether the attack was connected to Guira's anti-drug operations assignment. — LBG, GMA News
