Ex-Agri chief Alcala's drug suspect brother surrenders in Quezon


A brother of former Agriculture secretary Proceso Alcala surrendered to the police with his son to clear their names from allegations that they are involved in the illegal drug trade.
 
Athel Alcala, 59 and his son Sajid, 36, surfaced at around 2 p.m. Sunday at the Lucena City Police Station, accompanied by his brother Quezon 2nd District Rep. Vicente Alcala and nephew, City Mayor Roderick Alcala. 
 
Athel and Sajid are suspected of being involved in the illegal drug trade and allegedly handles drugs operations in Quezon.
 
The two Alcalas denied they are drug lords.
 
The father and son had been arrested in 2008 for posssession of several sachets of shabu.
 
The Phiilippie Drug Enforcement Agency had tagged Athel as the most wanted drug suspect in Lucena City.
 
Athel was out on bail in a drug pushing case during the arrest in 2008.
 
The Quezon provincial police said Athel is No. 9 in its list of high-value drug suspects.
