20 homes damaged by tornado in Bulacan
Twenty houses in Barangay Sibol were destroyed when a tornado whipped through San Miguel, Bulacan on Tuesday evening.
A report by Emil Sumangil in 24 Oras said that the tornado peeled off the rooves and walls of the houses during a storm.
Barangay Captain Bogart Ligon said that residents were alerted by strong winds and continuous rain.
"Bigla na lang silang may nadinig na malakas na malakas na hangin eh, tapos may kasamang pagulan, tuloy-tuloy yun hindi naglulubay," he said.
One of the residents, Sandy Lazaro, said that he was only woken when he felt raindrops because his roof has flown off.
"Pagbangon ko, binuhat na po yung bubong namin na yan...ayan nang magising kami pumatak na ang ulan," Lazaro recounted.
Lazaro's 7-month old child was nearly snatched by the tornado as well.
According to Lazaro's wife, "Babylyn," their son was sleeping in a hammock, which was tied to their house's wall.
"Naka-duyan pa po yung anak naming maliit. Kung hindi po namin naalis sa duyan, kasama po siyang natangay nung yero at saka mga kahoy," she said.
The Rizalista group's worship grounds weren't spared. Their roof ended up in a meadow near the area.
San Miguel Mayor Marivee Coronel assured that they are preparing aid for the affected families.
"Naghahanda na kami ng tulong para sa kanila tulad ng yero, kahoy, na kakailanganin nila," Coronel said.
