New drug rehabilitation center to rise in Davao City
A multi-million rehabilitation facility for drug dependents will be built in Davao City starting December, the local government announced Tuesday.
City Administrator Zuleika Lopez said the facility, which will be built on a 2.5-hectarre property in Malagos, will complement the current drug rehabilitation center in Bago Oshiro.
Lopez said the rehabilitation facility will be jointly funded by the Resorts World Manila and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation.
City Mayor Paolo Duterte said the new rehabilitation facility will decongest the current facility in Bago Oshiro, which also caters to drug dependents outside of the city.
"We support this because this will also help decongest our rehabilitation center," said Duterte.
The facility in Bago Oshiro has a maximum capacity of 100 people.
The city government said that at least 9,000 drug personalities have surrendered since July. —report from Trisha Macas/ALG, GMA News
