Magnitude-4.5 quake rocks Batanes, N Luzon


A mild magnitude-4.5 quake rocked Batanes Island in extreme Northern Luzon shortly after midnight Thursday. No casualty or damage to property was reported. The United States Geological Service (USGS) reported that the quake was recorded at 12:42 a.m. Friday. The epicenter was located 190 km west of Basco, Batanes. USGS said the epicenter was also 230 km north of Laoag in Ilocos Norte, or 550 km south-southwest of Taipei in Taiwan, or 635 km north of Manila. Last Wednesday, a magnitude-5.6 quake was recorded off the boundary of Taiwan and Batanes province in extreme Northern Philippines before noon. USGS said that quake was recorded at 11 a.m. Wednesday, and the epicenter traced to 112 km south-southeast of T'ai-tung, Taiwan. - GMANews.TV
