Mindoro police officials first cops to be charged for hit-and-run —PNP
The two police officials who allegedly killed a regional chairperson of a crime watch group are the first cops to be charged for a hit-and-run, Philippine National Police spokesperson Senior Supt. Dionardo Carlos said Thursday.
"As far as I can remember, (this) is the first time," Carlos said in a text message to GMA News Online.
Insp. Markson Almeranez, chief of police of Socorro town, and Senior Insp. Magdaleno Pimentel Jr. of the First Maneuver Platoon of Oriental Mindoro Police Public Safety Company (PPSC), were charged with murder for the death of Zenaida Luz on Wednesday.
Almeranez and Pimentel were aboard a motorcycle in civilian clothes when they shot the Citizens Crime Watch (CCW) regional chairperson in front of her house.
Responding policemen wounded the two in a shootout that ensued after the incident.
Carlos reiterated his earlier statement that the swift response of the Mindoro Oriental Provincial Police Office to the case made manifest "the stand of the PNP not to tolerate any wrongdoings even from among our ranks." —KG, GMA News
