1 reported dead, 3 missing in Bicol as Typhoon Karen approaches Luzon


A farmer has died while three fishermen went missing as Typhoon Karen hit Bicol with heavy rains and strong winds on Saturday.

The Police Regional Office (PRO) 5 said 79-year-old farmer Felicito Tesorero died of a heart attack in Barangay Buenavista, Bato, Camarines Sur.

It did not says if Tesorero's death will be included in the list of fatalities from the typhoon.

The regional police also reported three missing fishermen identified as Zaldy de Jesus, Luis Tupig and Renerio "Rene" del Valle, residents of Viga, Catanduanes.

It also reported that a total of 3,636 families of 15,971 people have been evacuated in at least six provinces in the region.

The regional police also reported flooding in several areas:

  • Zone 3 & 5, Padaicon, Mabolo and Sitio Clupa and Calauag in Naga City (partial flooding)
  • Barangay Concepion Pequeña near NIA (20 affected families)
  • Zone 6, Tabuco; Villa Karangahan, San Felipe; Vilmar Homes, Calauag; Cadena de Amor St, Bagumbayan Sure (passable)

A collapsed fence and rip-rap, meanwhile, was reported in Camella Homes in Cararayan, Naga City.

The PRO 5 said that it had deployed a total of 805 search and rescue personnel in anticipation of the typhoon. —ALG, GMA News
