Gov: Compostela valley did not earn from Diwalwal mining
Sun.Star: Compostela Valley Governor Arthur "Chiongkee" Uy said the Province of Compostela Valley has not earned a single centavo from the mining industry of Diwalwal for the past years. "For the last nine years, the provincial government (Comval) has not received any revenue from Diwalwal," Uy said during Tuesday's Kapehan sa Dabaw. However, this time around, Uy would be making sure that the pprovincial government would be getting its rightful share of the pie. In an interview, Uy said all the gold mined out of Diwalwal are directly sold to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and no longer to the black market, which proliferated in the 1990s when the peso was not stable and kept shooting up against the dollar. "The black market in the 90s smuggled out gold out of the country to be sold to the various industries abroad," Uy said. Uy is banking on the mining industry of Diwalwal, one of the most rich gold deposit sites in the country, to help boost the economy of his province. - Sun.Star
