Authorities release some 200 aquarium fishes in Romblon

Authorities on Wednesday released about 200 illegally-captured aquarium fishes at a sanctuary in San Fernando, Sibuyan Island, Romblon, Unang Balita reported on Friday.

The aquarium fishes were seized by San Fernando Municipal Police from a boat allegedly involved in illegal fishing activity on October 30, the report by Paul Jaysent Fos said.

Police Senior Inspector Elmer Fajel of San Fernando Municipal Police Station spearheaded the release of the aquarium fishes at the sanctuary, together with San Fernando, Romblon Mayor Salem Tansingo and several coast guard members.

Authorities stressed the importance of releasing aquarium fishes from captivity to prevent species extinction. —Erwin Colcol/KG, GMA News
