Fisherman finds P2-M marijuana in La Union river
A fisherman found 17 kilograms of marijuana along a river in Santol, La Union on Friday, police said Saturday.
Senior Inspector Arce Marzan, town police chief, said the fisherman found the 17 rolls of marijuana weighing at least 17 kilograms along the Amburayan River at the boundary of barangays Tubaday and Licingan in Santol.
Arce believes that the marijuana was left by the traders and was supposed to be picked up later and deliver it to their buyers.
"Istratehiya nung mga traders dito sa pagbebenta ng marijuana iniiwan na lang nila dito sa mga grassy portion o forested area ng ating lugar at kung sakaling makakuha sila ng timing o oportunidad ay dun nila ita-transport going sa kanilang buyer," the town police chief said.
Arce said the dried marijuana leaves has a street value of P2.1 million.
He suspects that the marijuana came from Kibungan or Sugpon towns in Ilocos Sur or Santol.
Investigations are ongoing to trace the owner of the seized marijuana. —report from Vic Alhamblra Jr./ALG, GMA News
