Police arrest Tagaytay wellness center owner

Police have arrested an unlicensed stem cell doctor and wellness center owner in Tagaytay City.

Arrested was Zoharina Antonia Pedrera Carandang also known as Antonio Carandang Park, owner and operator of Tagaytay-based Green & Young Health and Wellness Center.

Carandang was arrested last Friday by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by a local court in Tagaytay for the case of falsification of commercial documents.

The Tagaytay City Police Office said Carandang has posted a P12,000 bail for her temporary liberty.

Carandang was previously arrested by the police for charges of syndicated estafa and illegal medical practice, but was able to post bail.

She was originally charged with syndicated estafa, illegal malpractice and murder before the Tagaygay Municipal Fiscal's Office.

The charges were filed by Bernard Tan. He is the father of cancer patient Katherine Tan, who died allegedly after having treatment at Carandang's wellness center.

Tan said in his complaint that his daughter, suffering from Hodgkin's lymphoma, received a treatment from the wellness center and was given embryonic stem cell injections and acupuncture coffee enema.

Tan's daughter died on July 4, 2013 after seven months of treatment at Carandang's wellness center.

He had said that they thought they were getting a proper treatment from Carandang's center since she had also treated former President Gloria Arroyo. —report from John Consulta/ALG, GMA News
