Patient dies as ambulance carrying him plunges into sea in Cebu

A hysterical rush to save a barangay captain’s life in Cebu province proved fatal when the ambulance carrying him to a hospital fell into the sea.

Unang Balita reported that Felipe Lauron, barangay chairman of Tayud in Consolacion, Cebu was rushed to a hospital due to asthma attack.

But in the rush, the ambulance carrying Lauron fell into the sea after the driver lost control of the vehicle.

Lauron's wife and two nurses, who were also in the ambulance, were hurt.

The report quoted Lauron’s wife as saying that the ambulance was going so fast during the incident. But the driver, Von Ryan Maranyo, argued that he needed to rush because the captain had difficulty breathing.

He claimed the ambulance’s brakes failed and he lost control of the vehicle. He apologized to the victim’s family.

Meanwhile, Lauron’s family is still studying if they will pursue charges against Maranyo. —LBG, GMA News
