Province-wide blackout in Marinduque due to Nina —report

A province-wide power outage plagued the entire Marinduque on Monday due to the onslaught of Typhoon Nina, the Philippine Information Agency has reported.

Nina reportedly also displaced more than 2,000 individuals in the province.

In a Facebook post, the Philippine Information Agency in Marinduque said Nina greatly affected the towns of Sta. Cruz and Boac as the typhoon crosses the provinces.

The PIA report said Nina packed strong winds and heavy rains around 5 a.m. on Monday, or when the province was placed under Storm Signal Warning No. 3 by weather bureau PAGASA, that caused heavy damage on agriculture.

Photos showed damaged structures, toppled trees and electric posts blocking portions of the highway.

As of 11:56 a.m., Sto. Domingo said 1,246 out of the 2,430 displaced individuals were relocated to evacuation centers, according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council.

The Bureau of Fire Protection in Marinduque started its clearing operations at barangays greatly affected by Typhoon Nina.

As of 2 p.m., PAGASA hoisted Signal No. 1 in Marinduque with winds between 30-60 kph expected within 36 hours. —Joseph Tristan Roxas/NB, GMA News
