Several hurt in IED bombing in Leyte town fiesta

Several people were hurt in an explosion caused by a pair of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during a boxing match near the Hilongos municipal Plaza in Leyte on Wednesday during the town's fiesta.

At least 23 victims were rushed to the Hilongos District Hospital for treatment after the blast, which was reported at 9:20 p.m. The IEDs were detonated using a cellular phone.

Hilongos Police Chief Insp. Alberto Renomeron added that they found a third IED that did not explode.

An investigation into the bombing incident is being conducted by the Hilongos Police Office, scene of the crime operatives (SOCO) from the Ormoc City Police Office, and the Philippine National Police Explosive and Ordnance Division. —BAP/JST, GMA News
