Flooding, power outage in Lanao del Sur


There are eight barangays in Kapai town in Lanao del Sur are flooded, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) reported.

The Ditsaab Ramaib Risk Reduction and Management Office, meanwhile, reported a rise in water level in Ramain River and other minor tributaries and creeks.

It is now in critical level or spillage level, the PDRRMC reported, adding that forced evacuation in flood prone areas is underway.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) told GMA News Online that there is power outage in Iligan City since 8:43 p.m. on Monday.

"Reason: outage of Agus 6 - Mapalad 69 kv line, which serves ILPI (Iligan Light and Power Inc.) franchise area. Line patrol is ongoing.

Beth Ladaga, NGCP regional corporate affairs and Public Affairs officer in Northern Mindanao, said inspection is ongoing and they are waiting for a report in the field.

The Iligan City Disaster Risk and Reduction and Management Council has suspended classes from all levels in public and private classes on Jan. 17, Tuesday.

The water level in Iponan River has risen to 4.3 meters. The normal level is only about 3.3 meters. However, the flood waters from Mandulong River, a tributary of Iponan, has gone down.

Ongoing preemptive evacuation of residents, said Iligan Rep. Freddue Siao, and that there are 120 people staying at the Iligan City Public Plaza.

The following areas are not passable due to flooding: Barangays Mahayay, La Salle Road/ Barangay Villa Verde, San Miguel, Del Carmen, Tubod/Bacayo Area, Ubaldo Llaya, Upper Hinaplanon, Hinaplanon, Ma. Cristina, San Roque, Pala-o, Buru-un, Bagong Silang, Santiago, Tambacan, and nearby areas.

Power transmission service has been restored in Iligan City at 2:55 a.m., NGCP's Ladaga told GMA News Online.

The Agus 6 - Mapalad 69 kV line was restored.
