More than 40 hurt as SuperCat collides with barge off Cebu

More than 40 passengers were hurt after a SuperCat ferry bound for Cebu collided with a barge along Mactan Channel on Saturday night.

A Balitanghali report said a total of 49 passengers were hurt.

The Philippine Coast Guard said MV Braquel of SuperCat 2Go collided with a barge owned by the San Miguel Corp. along Mactan Channel past 10 p.m.

The ferry was being pulled by a tugboat when the accident happened, the Balitanghali report said.

Four of the passengers sustained major injuries and the others suffered minor wounds only.

According to reports, MV Braquiel was heading to Pier 4 in Cebu, from Ormoc City in Leyte. —Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/ALG, GMA News
