Names of fatalities in Tanay bus mishap


The road accident involving a tourist bus in Tanay, Rizal on Monday resulted to the death of a total of 15 people while more than 30 others were wounded.

Of this number, 13 were students, one was a staff member of Bestlink College of the Philippines, and the other one, the driver of the tourist bus, GMA News’ Bam Alegre said in an Unang Balita report on Tuesday.

Initial investigation said the bus was en route to a medical and survival training for their National Service Training Program subject when the bus lost its brakes while traversing a curved highway.

The bus later hit an electrical post and a nearby tree.

The following are the names of those who perished in fatal bus accident, as reported in Unang Balita:

Most of the bodies were initially brought to two nearby funeral parlors in Tanay, the report said.

According to Supt. Christopher Dela Peña, chief of the Tanay police who is handling the case, authorities are currently in the process of getting eyewitness accounts on the accident.

“As of now, kinukuha po natin ‘yung statement ng mga witness, ‘yung nakatalon po. ‘Yun po ang mga prine-prepare nating mga dokumento,” Dela Peña said in an Unang Balita interview on Tuesday.

Dela Peña clarified that the road where the incident occurred is not accident-prone.

“Pero ‘yung lugar talaga ay palusong, medyo blind curve,” he said.

Earlier reports said that several passengers of the tourist bus claimed they smelled what seemed like burning rubber before the road mishap happened.

The Tanay police has yet to talk to the management of the tourist bus and Bestlink College of the Philippines, Dela Peña said. —Erwin Colcol/KG, GMA News
