Magnitude-6.0 quake hits Lanao del Sur


A magnitude-6.0 earthquake struck six kilometers west of Wao town in Lanao del Sur on Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

The quake, which was tectonic in origin, occurred at 5:21 a.m. It struck at a depth of one kilometer.

The quake was reported at a "destructive" Intensity VII in Wao, Lanao del Sur and Kalilangan, Bukidnon.

It was felt at Intensity IV in Davao City, Cotabato City, Cagayan de Oro City and Gingoog City.

Instrumental Intensity III, meanwhile, was felt in parts of Cagayan de Oro City, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council said.

PHIVOLCS said damage from the quake are expected.

The agency initially measured the quake at magnitude 5.5 and traced the epicenter in nearby Kalilangan town in Bukidnon province.

The change was posted by PHIVOLCS at 5:44 a.m.

Four aftershocks have been recorded by the agency since the 5:21 a.m. quake. The strongest of the four tremors struck 5:51 a.m. and was measured at magnitude-4.0. — BAP/KG/ALG/TJD, GMA News
