18 of 21 public schools damaged in Mabini town due to Batangas quakes

Eighteen out of 21 public schools in Mabini, Batangas suffered damaged after the successive earthquakes that hit Batangas City on Saturday, Athena Imperial reported on "24 Oras" on Wednesday.

At the Mabini Elementary school only three out of the 28 classrooms were spared from damage. The school has more than 1,000 students.

"As declared by our DepEd engineer... di na talaga siya pwede," district supervisor Matdarenda Marasigan said of the damage.

At the Sta. Mesa Elementary School, the cracks on the floor and ceiling are a cause for concern.

"Risky na po ito sa mga bata," said principal Ofelia Del Mundo.

Budget Secretary assured the public that the government would prioritize fund allocations for the repair of the damaged schools.

"'Yung pangangailangan niyo, ng eskwelahan... I think we should take advantage of the summer months para matugunan ang nasirang eskwelahan," DBM Sec. Benjamin Diokno said.
