Woman finds grandchild who survived Nueva Ecija bus tragedy thanks to viral FB post

The grandmother of a child who survived the minibus accident in Nueva Ecija found her thanks to a Facebook post by hospital staff that went viral.

Nely Bacsa was able to identify her grandchild Jiah Lyn Andrade after the child's picture was posted on social media by staffers of Veterans Regional Hospital in Nueva Vizcaya.

"Nagpapasalamat din ako sa kanila dahil pinost nila 'yung picture ng apo ko at nakatulong din ng malaki at nalaman namin na buhay siya," the grandmother said in a report by Vonne Aquino on "24 Oras."

Jiah Lyn's mother, aunt, and sibling died in the accident. According to the Nueva Ecija Police, 34 people died in the tragedy while 43 were injured after the minibus fell into a ravine in Carranglan, Nueva Ecija last Tuesday.

The hospital staff posted photos of Jiah Lyn with the caption: "Kilala niyo po ba ang batang ito? Babae po, about 3 to 4 years old. Kabilang po siya sa mga biktima ng aksidente kahapon sa nalaglag na bus sa isang bangin sa boundary ng Vizcaya at N. Ecija."

It added that the child was unable to speak and had suffered head injuries and a fracture in her left hand. The post was shared more than 25,000 times.

The report said 28 passengers are still confined at VRH, five of whom are in critical condition including a certain Benito Maxion who suffered brain injury and jaw fracture.

The report added that the victims have not received any aid yet from the managament of LeoMarick minibus. VRH vowed that the victims confined in their hospital will not be charged. —Anna Felicia Bajo/JST, GMA News
