Miss World Philippines 2015 Hillarie Parungao not convinced father shot self inside police station
Miss World Philippines 2015 Hillarie Parungao is not convinced that her father shot himself inside a police station in Solano, Nueva Vizcaya after being arrested for alleged drug dealing.
"Kung papaano niya ako kausapin sa mga huling pag-uusap namin at iyong pagsama ng kapatid ko sa kanya, I don't think he would like to take away his life," Parungao said.
The beauty queen's father, Danielle Parungao, was arrested last Tuesday by members of the Solano Police Station during an alleged buy-bust operation. Police allegedly seized four sachets of shabu from the elder Parungao.
While being booked, the beauty queen's father alleged complained of difficulty in breathing.
Police said they removed the elder Parungao's handcuffs and decided to bring him to the hospital.
The elder Parungao was about to be brought out of the police station when he allegedly grabbed one of the policemen's firearm and shot himself in the mouth, police claimed.
The beauty queen's father and Police Officer 2 Mark Baccay, owner of the firearm in question, tested negative for powder burns.
The beauty queen said that her father was a user, but had been rehabilitated even before the police started its war on drugs last year. She said her father surrendered under the police's Oplan Tokhang to clear his name and show proof to the police that he had been rehabilitated.
She denied that her father was a drug dealer. She said her father was a rice trader and was supposed to meet someone regarding the business on the day of his arrest.
The beauty queen said that a witness told them that her father shouted "Tinaniman ako!" during the supposed buy-bust operation.
The Solano police insisted that they have evidence that would prove the elder Parungao shot himself.
The local police said they respect the beauty queen's statement.
The beauty queen's family has asked the Philippine National Police's Internal Affairs Service to conduct a probe into her father's death. —report from Vonne Aquino/ALG, GMA News
