P18-M shabu believed to be from Bilibid seized in Bohol

Three kilograms of shabu believed to be sourced from the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City were seized by policemen in Clarin, Bohol on Saturday.

Senior Inspector Fernando Peroramas, chief of the Clarin police, said the drugs were seized from Teofilo Tampus, 47 in a buy-bust operation in Sitio Kalubihan, Barangay Nahawan at around 1 p.m.

Peroramas said they conducted the entrapment operation after a concerned citizen informed them that a package of shabu was received by Tampus.

He added that a day before the suspect's arrest, Tampus' son, Jonathan and his girlfriend were arrested by policemen at a checkpoint in Loon town for possession of 50 grams of shabu and a firearm.

Peroramas said that according to Tampus, the source of the drugs was a certain "Boss Sam" and it came from the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.

Several probes have been conducted, including a congressional inquiry, on the shabu trade inside the national penitentiary last year.

Tampus said in an interview that he picked up the shabu delivery based on an exchange of text messages with its source.

He said he was paid P3,000 to pick up and dispose off the drugs.

Peroramas said the shabu seized from Tampus has a street value of P18 million.

"So far, biggest haul sa buong Bohol," he said.

Investigations are ongoing to identify Tampus' drug source. —report from Leo Udtohan/ALG, GMA News
