NPA attacks, ‘punishes’ open-pit mining company in Mati City
The New People's Army's Regional Operations Command in Southern Mindanao announced on Monday that it had attacked and "punished" a mining company operating an open-pit mine in Mati City, Davao Oriental.
The NPA's ComVal–Davao Gulf Sub-Regional Command, during their attack on the Mil-Oro Mining Corp. in Barangay Macambol, had seized two US-made carbines, six shotguns, military radios, ammunition, and several gadgets.
The communist rebels also set fire to mining equipment, including five backhoes, four graders, and company vehicles.
The NPA said the company was owned by Austral-Asia Link Mining Corp. whose environmental compliance certificate was revoked last year by then Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Gina Lopez. — Joseph Tristan Roxas/DVM, GMA News
