Wesmincom prepares for Brigada Eskwela 2017
The Armed Forces of the Philippines' Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) has started preparing for the repair of classrooms to be used for the new schoolyear, radio dzBB's Tuesday Niu reported on Thursday.
Soldiers will temporarily set aside their guns for hammers and nails and other cleaning materials as they join the Department of Education's (DepEd) "Brigada Eskwela."
The said move will benefit public school students from Muslim communities and conflicted areas in Mindanao.
Wesmincom commander Lieutenant General Carlito G. Galvez Jr. said he has already ordered his subordinates to help schools prepare for the new schoolyear.
Galvez said this would positively affect students as they will be able to actively participate more in class once they see their classrooms clean and well-maintained.
DepEd earlier released their implementing guidelines for 2017 Brigada Eskwela with the theme "Isang DepEd, Isang Pamayanan, Isang Bayanihan Para sa Handa at Ligtas na Paaralan."
The program will be conducted from May 15 to 20, 2017.
"Brigada Eskwela" is the national schools' maintenance week. DepEd aims to bring all education stakeholders together to participate and contribute their time, effort and resources in this activity.
DepEd said its regional and school division offices shall hold a caravan on May 15 to launch the first day of Brigada Eskwela.
The national kick-off ceremony will be held in a public secondary school in the host region, Region VII.
