Armed men torch heavy equipment in Lucban

A group of armed men fired guns and burned two heavy equipment belonging to a construction company in Lucban, Quezon on Sunday night, a report on Unang Balita on Tuesday said.

Damaged were two backhoe units of the BC Villaseñor Construction.

The incident occurred at past 6 p.m. Sunday.

The heavy equipment were being used in a road widening project of the Department of Public Works and Highways on the highway connecting the provinces of Quezon and Laguna.

Firemen were able to contain the fire after barangay officials immediately asked for their help when the armed men left.

According to a witness, the armed men stopped vehicles and fired at the equipment before burning them.

Investigators are probing whether the incident was due to politics or if a rebel group was behind the attack. —With a report from Peewee Bacuño/KG, GMA News
