DMCI temporarily restores power in Masbate

DMCI Masbate Power Corp. (DMPC) Thursday said it temporarily restored the power supply in Masbate after it was compelled to cut its service to the province's electric cooperative due to unpaid bills.

"This is to inform the customers of Masbate Electric Cooperative (MASELCO) that DMCI Masbate Power Corporation has agreed to temporarily restore its power supply to the electric cooperative effective 8:00 a.m. today (June 1, 2017), pending discussion with MASELCO as to its firm and acceptable commitment to settle its overdue obligations to DMPC as well as the upgrading of MASELCO’s distribution system to ensure reliability of the power supply to its customers," parent DMCI Power Corp. said in a notice to MASELCO.

On Wednesday, DMPC cut the power supply in the island province of Masbate due to MASELCO's failure to pay its obligations amounting to P240 million.

The power generation company noted that it has been negotiating with its creditors and suppliers for cooperation and support to ensure temporary supply of electricity to MASELCO.

"We appreciate the assistance of Hon. Governor Antonio T. Kho, the Department of Energy (DOE), the National Electrification Administration (NEA) and other local government units (LGUs), all of whom have assured us that the necessary reforms to resolve the issues will be implemented," the company said.

NEA Administrator Edgardo Masongsong earlier said that the NEA will takeover the management of MASELCO to ensure the immediate return of power supply to its customers. — MDM, GMA News
