735 houses totally damaged in quake-hit Ormoc City, Kananga town


The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has reported that a total of 707 houses in Ormoc City were totally damaged by the magnitude-6.5 earthquake last week.

In its update on Sunday night, the NDRRMC added that a total of 1,029 houses were partially damaged in the city.

Meanwhile, 28 houses were totally damaged and 802 more partially damaged in Kananga town.

In a radio dzBB interview before noon Monday, Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez said 4,700 families have been affected by the earthquake.

Two persons, who are residents of Kananga town and Ormoc City, died during the earthquake and a total of 329 have been reported injured.

The NDRRMC report said school buildlngs and private establishments were also damaged by the quake.

It also reported that 15 roads and 10 bridges in Biliran, Leyte and Southern Leyte were damaged, but all were passable.

Kananga town has been placed under a state of calamity.

Gomez, meanwhile, said the city's disaster management council will convene anytime today to discuss the possible state calamity declaration in the city. —Rafeea Custodio/ALG/KVD, GMA News
