PREVENTIVE MEASURE

Some roads in Cordillera closed due to Typhoon Gorio

Some roads in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) prone to landslides and hazards due to Typhoon Gorio have been preventively closed off to traffic, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Saturday.

NDRRMC spokesperson Mina Marasigan said in an interview on radio dzBB that this would serve as a pre-emptive measure to avoid possible road accidents.

"Ito ay preventive measure na ginagawa ng Cordillera Administrative Region dahil may patuloy na paguulan, iiwas tayo sa mga aksidente dahil maaaring magkaroon ng landslide," Marasigan said.

She added that hiking and trekking activities on Mount Pulag and Mount Purgatory have also been suspended.

In a separate advisory from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the following roads were closed off to traffic:

• K0314+650, K0315+500 Poblacion, Kibungan, Benguet

• Acop-Kapangan-Kibungan-Bakun Road, Liwang Section, Bakun, Benguet

• Tabuk-Banuae Road

• Junction Talubin-Barlig-Natonin-Paracelis-Calaccad Road

Meanwhile, the following roads only have a single lane passable to vehicles:

• Shilan-Beckel Road in La Trinidad, Benguet

• Tawang-Ambiong Road in La Trindad, Benguet

• Baguio City Limit - Sto Tomas Road

The DPWH said that Kennon Road remained open to motorists, however, the public is highly encouraged to take alternative routes due to threats of landslides.
