Military takes control of Mapandi bridge in Marawi —Wesmincom

Government forces have already taken control of the critical Mapandi bridge from pro-ISIS Maute group in Marawi City, according to a report from Benjie Liwanag of radio dzBB on Saturday.

Western Mindanao Command Commander Lt. Gen. Carlito Galvez confirmed that the Armed Forces of the Philippines has taken hold of the Mapandi bridge — considered as the gateway to Marawi City proper.

Galvez said that defensive operations would continue to ensure that the terrorist group will not regain control of the bridge.

Civilians were advised not to return to the war-torn city as the firefight between military and Maute group continues.

The Maute group took control of the Bridge following its attack in Marawi in May. The attack forced President Rodrigo Duterte to declare a two-month martial law across Mindanao, which was eventually extended until the end of the year. — John Ted Cordero/MDM, GMA News
