Bystander injured during raid at Parojinog compound appeals for help
A man who was accidentally shot in the leg during the raid at the Parojinog compound in Ozamiz City before dawn on Sunday is appealing for help for his hospitalization expenses.
According to a report by Susan Enriquez on Unang Balita on Thursday, the man claimed his house is just across the Parojinog compound and he was mistakenly picked up by police.
The man, who refused to be identified, said he was sleeping outside his house when he heard gunfire.
He ran even though he could not see anything in the dark save for the flashlights of the raiding team.
The man said he suddenly fell and only realized later that he had taken a bullet in the leg.
He said he crawled away but the police found him after his neighbors ran toward his direction.
Police made them drop to the ground, put handcuffs on them, and then herded them to a patrol vehicle.
On Sunday, the injured man was seen at the Ozamiz City Police Station writhing in pain.
The man insisted he is innocent and was just caught by a stray bullet because of his house's proximity to the Parojinog Compound.
He appealed for assistance since he could not work due to his injury. The man said he has no Philhealth coverage and his mother just sells "lugaw" for a living.
The raid resulted in the death of Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr. and 15 others.
Policemen were at the time serving search warrants on households belonging to the Parojinog family. —KG/KVD, GMA News
