Thieves take pics of themselves before stealing motorcycles, get caught

Three men were caught on CCTV camera taking pictures of themselves before stealing motorcycles in Biñan, Laguna on Monday.

In a "24 Oras" report by John Consulta on Tuesday, the video showed the suspects initially taking pictures, but were actually searching for motorcycles to steal in a commercial area.

Two of them served as lookout while the other one tried to insert the "master key" on the parked motorcycles. After several tries, the key worked on a red motorcycle and the suspects escaped.

"Parang organized na 'yung kanilang galaw kasi meron kanya-kanyang role eh, kung sino 'yung sususi, sino 'yung mga spotter. So sa kanilang modus na ganon, most probably madami na sila nabiktima," said Chief Inspector Mark Rebanal, officer-in-charge of Biñan police.

"Puro mga lumang motor ang kanilang kukunin. Kasi 'yung kanilang master key ay nagagamit lang ho 'yan sa mga lumang motor," said Allan Farcon, captain of Barangay San Antonio.

The suspects even returned to the commercial area to steal another motorcycle, but the residents were able to identify them.

Authorities chased them as they escaped using their bicycles.

"Pagnanakaw nila, binaligtad lang 'yung damit niya tapos nakabisikleta na ho sila," Farcon said.

Police said one of the suspects identified as Dominic Andaya, 23, was a Criminology graduate.

"Nakakatakot sir 'yung mga ganitong klase ng tao kasi sa background niya meron pala siyang masamang intensyon o masamang ugali," Farcon said.

Authorities were able to recover the red motorcycle.

The suspects underwent booking proceedings for charges. —Anna Felicia Bajo/JST, GMA News
