8 of 13 missing Calamba residents rescued —NDRRMC exec
Eight of the 13 people reported missing after a river overflowed in Calamba, Laguna, due to Tropical Depression Maring have been found, a disaster official told QRT news program on Tuesday.
"Thirteen originally 'yung missing, walo ay na-rescue na, kaso lima pa 'yung hinahanap ngayon diyan sa Calamba, Laguna," said Undersecretary Ricardo Jalad, executive director of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
The missing residents were from Barangays Parian and San Cristobal.
At least three people were killed after Maring caused widespread flooding and landslides in and around Metro Manila, forcing schools, government offices and businesses to shut down.
Jalad said all provinces in CALABARZON Region experienced flooding while floodings in the National Capital Region and MIMAROPA were restricted to some areas.
He said most of the fatalities were due to landslides.
"Diyan sa Taytay, may dalawa, tatlong casualty dahil sa landslide. Merong isa sa Lucena, isang two-month-old baby dahil sa nag-collapse na wall," Jalad said.
As far as evacuation is concerned, Jalad said they continue to monitor the situation in every affected area through their local offices, but final action will depend on the local government unit.
"Ang ginagawa natin dito sa NDRRMC ay nagbibigay tayo ng advisory, tinitingnan natin kung gaano kalala ang sitwasyon, kung kinakailangan nang magpadala tayo ng tulong ay magpadala," Jalad said.
