5 hurt, 452 houses damaged in magnitude 5.4 quake in Lanao del Sur
At least five people have been reported hurt and hundreds of houses were damaged due to the magnitude 5.4 earthquake that hit Wao, Lanao del Sur on Sunday.
Two of those hurt are residents of Barangay Muslim Village, including a six-year-old girl and Aldjun Orandang.
In an Unang Balita report, Orandang said he jumped from the second floor of Masjid Darul Iman mosque because he thought the building was going to collapse during the earthquake.
"Biglang lumakas yung lindol. Pagkatapos nasira 'yan. Natulala ako, biglang tumalon ako. Akala ko masisira na yung mosque. Natakot ako," Orandang said.
The six-year-old girl, meanwhile, suffered a head injury after being hit by falling debris.
Francis Garcia, head of the Wao Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), said a total of 452 houses were partially damaged and 31 more were totally damaged by the earthquake.
Garcia said the number may still increase because only nine out of the 26 villages affected by the quake had reported to the MDRRMO. —reports from Bernadette Reyes and Michael Tolang/Rie Takumi/ALG, GMA News
