Transport strike causes traffic in GenSan; hardly felt in Laoag
Jeepney operators and drivers on Tuesday staged a protest action in General Santos City on Day 2 of the nationwide transport strike organized by Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (PISTON).
The protest action caused traffic to build up on Tuesday morning, with the line of vehicles reaching one kilometer at the junction of Barangay Lagao, Davao, and Sarangani Roads, according to a report on News To Go.
Holding placards, the drivers called on the government not to proceed with the jeepney modernization plan which will phase out old jeepney units.
Meanwhile, in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, the strike did not cause much inconvenience to commuters since there were still many vehicles plying the roads.
For these drivers on the road, a jeepney strike will just affect their livelihood for the day.
Instead of protesting, they said talks should be pursued with the government to look into the jeepney modernization program.
The second day of the transport strike was also hardly felt in Quezon City and Caloocan City on Tuesday morning. —KG, GMA News
