Nonstop rains bring floods, landslide to Quezon, Camarines Sur
Tuesday’s continuous rains brought floods to different towns in Quezon province and Camarines Sur.
Up to 20 families have voluntarily left their homes in the center of Lopez, Quezon for evacuation centers after an overflow of the Talolong River flooded some barangays for almost four hours, according to a report by GMA stringer Peewee Bacuño.
Another six barangays were flooded in Atimonan, where nine families were forcibly evacuated.
Forty-three passengers were stranded at Atimonan Port and also had to be brought to evacuation centers.
A landslide occupied one lane of Maharlika Highway in the town of Plaridel, but the road became completely passable as of posting time.
The part of Maharlika Highway in the town of Gumaca is now seeing up to three kilometers of vehicular traffic on both lanes because a ten-wheeler truck whose tire got removed blocked the highway.
Maharlika Highway itself was in gutter-deep flood, causing a mild build-up of traffic in the area.
Strong winds and rain uprooted a coconut tree in Mauban, Quezon, nearly destroying the house it crashed into, but no injuries were reported.
Quezon’s Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and local government units are conducting round-the-clock monitoring.
Camarines Sur
Meanwhile, in Camarines Sur, the town of Baao is experiencing knee-deep floods, hurting the business of flower vendors this Undas season, according to a report on Unang Balita on Wednesday.
Motorists, including the driver of an overloaded motorcycle, soldiered on through the floods to reach the market.
Residents said a clogged drainage system caused the flood in their area.
Some areas in Labo, Camarines Sur, also got flooded.


The low-pressure area that has started crossing the Visayas has developed into a tropical depression dubbed “Ramil.” The former LPA, the northeast monsoon, and the tail end of a cold front soaked various parts of the country in rains on Tuesday, according to the weather bureau.
