Sultan Kudarat LGU treasurer, husband nabbed in drug raid
The treasurer of a local government in Sultan Kudarat and her husband were arrested in an anti-drug operation in General Santos City on Saturday.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) identified the suspects as Joy Nadar, 46, a treasurer of the Palimbang local government and her husband, Jojo Nadar, 42.
The couple was arrested in a raid by the PDEA and Joint Task Force GenSan of the military at their residences in General Santos City at around 8:45 p.m.
The PDEA said the Nadar couple has alleged link to the Sogis drug group.
Seized from the two houses of the couple in Malasedo Phase 3 Subdivision, Barangay San Isidro wer 50 grams of shabu and a rifle grenade.
The authorities also believed that the treasurer was involved in corrupt practices based on cash liquidation documents seized during the raid.
The PDEA and the military also raided the Nadar couple's home at Las Villas in Barangay City Heights and recovered an ammunition for a .50 machine gun.
The agency believes that the Nadar couple is using Palimbang town's public funds in their drug transactions.
The couple had denied the PDEA's allegations. They also claimed that the drugs and other items seized from their houses were planted.
Charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act and illegal possession of firearms are being prepared against the couple, who are detained at the PDEA's Region 12 headquarters. —report from Garry Balantay/ALG, GMA News
