Robbers seize armored van in Bulacan, kill driver, run away with P6M

Hijackers commandeered an armored van, killed its driver, and ran away with an estimated P6 million cash on Friday night in Bulacan province.

Citing police information, GMA News' "Balitanghali" reported that the incident occurred at past 6 p.m. in Barangay Borol 1st  of Balagtas town .

Balagtas police identified the slain driver and security guard as Jorlito Alarba of the Royal Mandarin Agency, with headquarters in San Francisco Del Monte in Qeuzon City.

An initial police investigation showed that six suspects, posing as security guards, commandeered the armored van, which they later abandoned along Mc Arthur Highway in Balagtas.

Investigators said that three of the suspects took control of the vehicle while it was parked at Robinson Balagtas in Barangay Borol 1st, while driver Alarba was waiting for his companions.

Alarba was shot in the head when the hijackers reached a dark portion of the highway, police said.

Chief Inspector Restituto Granil, Balagtas PNP OIC, said they are looking at the possibility of an inside job in the heist as there were no signs of forcible opening of the van's vault when the suspects took away an estimated P6 million in cash.

Authorities have already identified persons of interest, while an investigation on the incident is ongoing. —LBG, GMA News
