1 inmate dead, 13 others hurt as ceiling of Butuan jail collapses

One inmate was killed and 13 others hurt when part of the ceiling of the Butuan City Jail in Caraga region collapsed on Friday morning.

Strong winds and heavy rains from Storm Vinta caused the ceiling of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) facility to fall on the inmates, Glen Juego reported on "Dobol B sa News TV.

Philippine Red Cross volunteers, who were first to respond,  confirmed the casualties in the incident. 

It said, the wounded were rushed the Butuan City Medical Center and the rest of the inmates are now undergoing a psycho-social debriefing. 

Meanwhile, the BJMP has not yet released a statement on the incident and the identity of inmate who died.  —LBG, GMA News
