2 Davao City mall fire victims not yet properly identified


The Davao City local government on Wednesday said only two of the 38 mall fire victims have yet to be properly identified by authorities.

The two NCCC Mall fire victims were Mikko Demafeliz and Alexandra Moreno.

Local authorities are confirming the identities of the 38 fatalities through DNA testing.

The 36 fatalities whose identities have been confirmed were:

Thirty-seven of the fatalities are all workers of US-based call center Rresearch Now Survey Systems International. Its office is located on the top floor of the four-story NCCC mall.

Melvin Ga-a, whose body was found on Tuesday night was an employee of the mall.

Authorities had initially said the fire started from a furniture store at the mall's third level.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello said investigations are ongoing to determine if safety and health standards were violated by the mall's management.

President Rodrigo Duterte had also said that he has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation, the police and Bureau of Fire Protection to conduct a thorough probe into the mall fire. —report from Trisha Macas/ALG, GMA News
