PAL orders misbehaving baggage handlers in viral video punished

The baggage handlers caught on video “mishandling” luggage from a Philippine Airlines (PAL) plane were placed under disciplinary action, the flag carrier said.

GMA News’ “Unang Balita” reported on Wednesday the video went viral on social media.

The baggage handlers were caught on camera by a passenger on board another plane parked next to the PAL plane at the Davao International Airport on Jan. 3, 2018.  Flight PR1809 just arrived from Manila.

“We condemn in the strongest terms this blatant violation of our cargo handling procedures. The video speaks for itself, substantial enough for PAL to take appropriate action,” PAL said in a statement.

PAL has ordered service contractor Excellent Workers MPC—the employer of the baggage handlers—to place the erring employees under disciplinary action and take corrective measures to ensure compliance with the airline’s strict cargo and baggage handling standards at all times.

“We owe it to our customers to ensure proper care of their shipments, and will not tolerate such lapses,” PAL said.

“We sincerely apologize for this, and thank the concerned citizen for bringing this to our attention,” the airline added. —Ted Cordero/VDS, GMA News
