Diarrhea in Cavite town: 380 cases, many children

The diarrhea outbreak in Gen. Trias in Cavite province showed no signs of easing as the number of patients rose to 380 before dawn Saturday. Radio dzBB reported that as of 4 a.m. Saturday, at least 224 new patients from Panungyanan village alone had complained of stomach pains in the last 24 hours. Cavite provincial health director Vilma Diez said most of the “new" patients were children and elderly residents of the city. She said the outbreak started on September 29. Health authorities earlier said they believed the outbreak could have come from a local water utility firm. Initial investigation showed patients sourced drinking water from the General Trias Water District. Health workers have taken water samples for analysis. DzBB said the results of the analysis might be known on Monday. - GMANews.TV
