Magnitude-4.7 quake shakes Borongan City in Eastern Samar


A magnitude 4.7 earthquake shook areas near Borongan City in Eastern Samar early Friday morning, according to a report by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

The tectonic quake was detected 23 kilometers east of Borongan with a depth of 20 kilometers at 1:20 a.m. and was felt at Intensity IV in Borongan City, though it was reported to have reached Intensity V based instrumental intensity.

The municipalities of Llorente, Maydolong, Salcedo, San Julian, and Sulat felt the earthquake at Intensity III. Instrumental intensity III and II were recorded at Catbalogan City and Palo, Leyte respectively.
