PNP: 2 persons of interest in killing of former La Union congressman

The Philippine National Police on Monday said they are considering two individuals as persons of interest in the killing of former La Union Second District Representative Eufranio "Franny" Eriguel.

PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde said a Special Investigation Task Group has already been formed to investigate the slay case of Eriguel, who was shot several times during an ambush in Barangay Capas in Agoo, La Union on Saturday night.

His two bodyguards were also killed due to several gunshot wounds while eight other people were hurt.

"Ang sinasabi doon, as of this time, 'yung RD (Regional Director) ay meron daw silang person of interest na dalawa. 'Yun ang sinasabi niya as of this time, " Albayalde said.

He added that they have yet to establish the motive for the killing of Eriguel as it is still under investigation. The PNP chief, however, clarified that this case has already been included in the list of election-related incidents.

"All shooting incidents kasi especially involving elected officials, we consider them as elected-related incidents not unless nga validated otherwise," he said. —KG, GMA News
