Barangay chairman hurt, son killed in Cotabato ambush


KIDAPAWAN CITY – A newly-elected barangay chairman was hurt while his son was killed when ambushed by unidentified gunmen in Pikit, Cotabato on Monday morning.

Police identified the fatality as Ranulfo Ranulfo Bobong Lisundra Bautista, son of Barangay Takepan chairman Santos Bautista, 61.

Police said the two Bautistas and two councilmen of Barangay Takepan had just attended a meeting at the Pikit town's gymnasium and were on their way to Barangay Batulawan when ambushed by unidentified gunmen at around 11:20 a.m.

The two councilmen, identified as Roberto Midsapak and Robin Salvador were also hurt in the ambush.

The chairman's son died due to a gunshot wound to the head.

The victims were on board a Bongo pickup truck driven by the younger Bautista.

Police have yet to establish if the ambush was related to the recently-concluded barangay elections. —ALG, GMA News
