Controversial Cebu Mayor Loot hurt in accidental firing of gun

Daanbantayan, Cebu Mayor Vicente Loot was wounded in a "freak" gun accident inside his vehicle, police said early Thursday.

A spot report from the Police Regional Office 7 indicated that Loot was in his car, along with two others, when the  incident happened at about 8:40 p.m. Wednesday.

The mayor—whom President Rodrigo Duterte tagged as narco-general—came from a vigil for his supporter in Barangay Lanao, Daanbantayan on that day, the police said.

Loot unknowingly sat on the gun, accidentally firing it with a bullet hitting  his left leg.

Police said that Loot was immediately brought to Daanbantayan District Hospital.

Over two weeks ago, Loot survived an ambush in Barangay Maya in Daanbantayan.

His driver was hurt in the attack while the mayor, his children, and a helper emerged unscathed.

Loot dismissed  the possibility the ambush had anything to do with Duterte's "narco-general" tag on him. —LBG, GMA News
