Downpour forces class suspensions affecting 4k Maguindanao students


COTABATO CITY—Classes have been suspended due to heavy rains, affecting nearly 4,000 school children, both in the elementary and high school levels, in the opening week of classes in Maguindanao in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Bai Meriam Kawit, Maguindanao schools division superintendent has reported that at least 23 school grounds are flooded.

Eleven of the of the schools have totally suspended their classes and some are doing their classes at gymnasiums in some towns.

“Around 3,910 pupils and 103 teachers are affected as of latest monitoring today,” Kawit said in her report to the ARMM-DepEd Office this Wednesday.

Since last week, heavy rains due to the effects of the two low-pressure areas (LPAs) affect Mindanao and parts of the Visayas.

This week, Tropical Depression Domeng has spawned rains affecting Mindanao regions, forcing class suspensions in Maguindanao. —LBG, GMA News
