Village councilor bet in Bulacan survives slay try

A candidate for barangay kagawad (village councilor) in Bulacan province was hurt in a shooting incident on Tuesday perpetrated by two unidentified suspects. Police identified the candidate as Martin Gumafelix, 40, who was shot at Sitio Pasong Kasay in Barangay (village) San Vicente in Sta. Maria town. The incident happened about 1:30 p.m. while Gumafelix was in the company of a certain Jobel Veloso. Veloso also sustained gunshot wounds. Both are now being treated in two different hospitals in Bulacan. Police said the suspects, who were aboard a motorcycle, were able to escape. Investigators are still trying to determine if the incident is politically motivated. On Monday, the country will hold the nationwide barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections. - GMANews.TV
